First Look at the Neewer Timer and Remote Release on the Sony A7

First Look at the Neewer Timer and Remote Release on the Sony A7 having a quick look at a new item we've gotten in, I didn't want to spend the money on the Time Lapse App for the Sony A7 as I saw this was available for a wee bit more. It's marked as working with the A7 Series as well as the A6000 and I'm happy to say it works fine on my A7 and even on my A5100 which was a nice suprise. At some point in the future I'll revisit this with a Time lapse on the A7 and/or the A5100 . This device functions fine as a Shutter release without having to put batteries in but to use the Time Lapse function requires battery power in the form of 2 AAA's I beieve it was about $22 and I like the fact that I can use on multiple camera's Please give this a thumbs up and subscribe to our channels it helps us keep bringing new videos to you. Sony A Mount 50mm F1.8 on the A7 shot in Full Frame

Sony A Mount 50mm F1.8 on the A7 shot in Full Frame Mode, I always forget that the Maximum Aperture on the LA-EA4 in Video mode is F3.5 so as usual say I have the Lens wide open at F1.8 which is simply untrue. It's an inexpensive lens. Tho designed for APS-C camera's it seems to cover the Full Frame quite well. I only just got this lens so will have to shoot some photo's with it at various apertures to test further but thus far think it was a fine purchase for a paltry $70. If you enjoyed this Video please give it a Thumbs up and please subscribe so you can see each new video as it becomes available as well as automatically be entered into any GiveAway's we run throughout the course of the year. Rode SmartLav+ Vs MXL FR 310 Shotgun Mic

Rode SmartLav+ Vs MXL FR 310 Shotgun Mic having a shootout in the studio. Lavalier Mic Versus Shotgun Mic. Which Sounds better in the studio, does it matter. Always best to let YOUR ears be your guide. Both these microphones retail for around the same price of $100 or so. I purposely left the Signal boost of the Shotgun Mic OFF to make it more of an apples to apples comparison. Please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe Checkout our website at http://www.madmohawkfilms.com Thanks for visiting! MXL FR-310 Vs Takstar SGC-598 Shotgun Mic head to head

MXL FR 310 Vs Takstar SGC 598 Shotgun Mic head to head some might say it's not fair pitting a $25-$40 Mic against a Mic that sells for $99-$150 but both are within reach of most filks. Is there a clear winner? Thats for YOU to decide for yourself. I simply provide quick samples in the studio for you to listen to both and make a decision yourself. Both Mics were setup similarly, notch filter on and no Signal Boost. mounted on the Sony A7 and plugged directly into it. The camera and Shotgun Mics were about 6 feet away. Sorry for the interruptions and lost train of thought, the fibers of the cheap wig were getting in my mouth. I paid $26 for the Takstar and I think the average price for the MXL is about $99. Should we do another quick video outdoor? Tarot and Numerology First Look at Mad Mohawk Gaming

Tarot and Numerology First Look at Mad Mohawk Gaming, we take a look at another Digital Divination app . This one does Numerology as well as Tarot. The biggest draw this app has that I see is the fact that you can create your own custom decks and even possibly have the deck sold thru the app. There's so many talented artists out there that this is an awesome idea in my opinion. This app offers the ability to enlist a person to give you a Tarot reading based on what you draw in the app I apologize for the backgound noise, I forgot I had a large fan running nearby and the Large Diaphragm Condensor Mic I was using picked it up rather well alas. Not bad enough to make my Voice Over unintelligible but certainly noticeable. Please give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it, also please subscribe for more videos of this sort. Asahi Pentax 110 24mm F2.8 on the Sony A7 in Crop and Full Frame mode

Going back into the Vintage Vault, trying out the Sony A7 with an old Asahi Pentax-110 24mm F2.8 lens. We shot in both Crop mode and Full Frame mode and the Full Frame mode vignette's suprsingly little. The Vignette is even less noticeable once we converted to 2.35:1 Aspect ratio. Not bad for a $30 or so Vintage lens. Shot the audio direct into the A7 using my Rode SmartLav+ into a converter. I used a single Neewer CN-160 LED light panel. MXL 990 Mic pitting the Blue Icicle Versus Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

Do you need a high end DAC interface for your Large Diaphragm Condensor Microphones or can you get away with a less expensive one? Watch this video and you may find your answer. I put the inexpensive Blue Icicle interface against the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, the Scarlett is three times the price of the Icicile but does it preform three times better? Have a listen for yourself and make your own decision. Best to listen via headphones to avoid missing any subtle differences.I use the MXL 990 mic on both interfaces. I used Poser to create this lip synched talking head but seem to have buggered it up somewhere along the way alas.I used the Wingard Popgard Pop filter on the MXL 990 to try to avoid any plosives.

MXL 990 Mic Vs Audio Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Condensor Mic

This week we pit two more Large Diaphragm Condensor Mic's against each other, In this Corner the MXL 990 and in the opposite corner the Audio-Technica AT2020. I plugged each into the iRig Pre, then into a Rode SC3 adapter and straight into the Sony A7. I shot with the Sigma 60mm Art lens wide open at F2.8 and 1/50 shutter speed. I Believe it was at ASA 800 . Take a look and a listen and see which you prefer. Both these XLR mics seem to sell for the same $99 usually tho the MXL is often discounted and sometimes sold in a set with the MXL 991. I don't think you can go far astray for Voice Over work with either of these microphones but perhaps you will hear something to sway you one way or the other when deciding on a Voice Over mic.

Cree Q5 LED Flashlight

Today we take a quick look at the Cree Q5 LED Flashlight, these can be found all over for $4-$5 a piece , sometimes less if buying in lots. This Flashlight uses a single AA battery to power it's quite bright single LED. I understand they are about 7 Watts. I shot this in my home studio using the Sony A7 and used a Rode SmartLav+ Lavalier Microphone plugged directly into the A7 to capture the audio. It would be nice if these could accept CR-123A batteries at 3.7 volts , this already bright flashlight would be even brighter. It's become my everyday carry now, it's a nice size, focusable and not too heavy. the barre is a nice looking machined aluminum I believe. This video was lit with a single Neewer CN-160 LED panel with the Orange/Yellow Warming filter on it, lit from my right. The lens used is the Tokina 28-70mm F2.8 ATX lens on a Sony LA-EA4 adapter. The lens is set at 50mm, shot at 1/50th of a second and wide open at F2.8

Irig Pre on Sony A7 with Audio Technica AT-2020 Mic

Trying out the iRig Pre microphone Preamp with an Audio-Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Condensor Mic plugged into it. The iRig Pre uses a 9 volt battery to provide Phantom Power to XLR mic's requiring it and that Power can be turned on and off. I used my Tokina ATX 28-70mm F2.8 Lens owith the Sony LA-EA4 adapter onto the Sony A7 to shoot this with the Lens set to 70mm and wide open at F2.8 with an shutter speed of 1/50. Love my Vintage Lenses :-) The iRig Pre is designed for use with Tablet's and Smartphone and so must be adapted to use direct into a Camera. Some people choose to modify the iRig Pre itself tho I prefer to use an adapter like the Rode SC3 I use for my Rode SmartLav+

Having a listen to the Tascam DR-22WL on the Sony A7

In our latest episode we take a listen to the quality of the audio of the relatively new Tascam DR-22WL digital recorder. From our use thus far it appears to be a nice upgrade from using the Zoom H1, it also seems much more solidly built and suffers much less from handling noise issues. So have a listen and hopefully it helps your decision on wether to pick one up or not.

Think you need expensive lights? Think again.

Think you need an elaborate lighting setup to shoot video? Think again, in this video I use 2 inexpensive LED lights run off batteries. The Neewer CN-160 is one of them, set 45 degrees off to my right, Cost $26 or so, I used one of the included color gels to warm the image. The other is applied head on, a BestLight Ring48 ring light on the end of the Sigma 60mm F2.8 Art Lens on a Sony A7, also with a warming color filter on it. No opther lights were on in the studio. I think it looks pretty good, hopefully you agree. Below is the 2 Lights in action.
