There's a new startup trying to entice studios to let us watch movies at home for $50 while its still in the theatre. The system would also require you to own a $150 "secure" set top box to decode the movie. You'd have the usual 48 hour window to pause/watch it. They say its similarly priced to what a family of 4 would pay to see the film at the theatre.
I recall the folks at VUDU mentioning trying to do this several years ago and quoting a target price of $30 a movie a much more palatable fee IMO. VUDU also works on several game consoles, SmartTV's and other set top boxes. VUDU I think also has deeper pockets, I've not heard them making any real headway tho.
What do YOU think?
