Yultron Drops Rip-Roaring Trap Single "Dyemonds"

With no booths to tear up and no stages to grace due to the impact of COVID-19, electronic music producers have been cranking out some of the most inspired music of their careers while under lockdown. While the music industry has been hit especially hard, musicians have used this time to support each other while honing in on their creativity to connect with fans in new and exciting ways.

Enter renowned bass producer Yultron, who recently arrived on Kayzo's Welcome Records with "Dyemonds," an absolute flamethrower of a hybrid trap tune.

Yultron is known for his ability to bulldoze genre boundaries and push the envelope of bass music forward with innovative sound design, which is exactly what he does here. Eschewing his penchant for psy-trance, Yultron stays in the same BPM lane while opting for a half-time arrangement as opposed to four-on-the-floor, uncorking a riotous trap tune that is bursting at the seams with rave flair.

From the track's fluttering arpeggios to the subtle vocoding of its hip-hop-inspired vocal sample, Yultron's nuanced sound design is on full display here. The drops are also fresh and forward-thinking, with frenetic, quirky synths and metallic vowel bass patches that run roughshod throughout the booming low end. Never one to employ cookie-cutter production tactics, he closes out "Dyemonds" by syncopating and pitching the bass elements of the second drop, which his just as hard as the first.

deadmau5 Announces Livestream Performance and Q&A with Amazon Music Tomorrow

Amazon Live is bringing the mau5 to you live and direct.

deadmau5 has announced a new livestream event in partnership with Amazon Music, who will be hosting the Grammy Award-nominated dance music producer for a wide-ranging session tomorrow, May 29th, 2020.

The mau5 took to Instagram to share the news and invite fans to ask questions leading up to the stream.

In his post, deadmau5 divulged that he will be performing a DJ set and also answering questions from fans, who should have a lot to ask about. Hot off the release of his stunning collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo's The Neptunes, "Pomegranate," he recently appeared on KISS Ibiza's "LIVE in the MIX!" for a performance where he showed off his iconic cube v3 production.

Livestreamed events from the mau5 have been few and far between over the course of the pandemic, but when they have happened, they have been spectacular. In addition to dusting the cobwebs off his techno alter ego TESTPILOT for a recent Factory 93 livestream, he also threw down an interactive set in the world of Fortnite alongside Dillon Francis and Steve Aoki.

Diplo Is Previewing His Forthcoming Country Album Live on Twitch Tomorrow

Diplo is lassoing his fans to Twitch to preview tracks from "Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil" ahead of it's release on Friday.

Few artists in the electronic dance music world have been as busy as Diplo during their time in lockdown. He has hosted a bevy of livestream events to connect with his fans throughout the entirety of the pandemic, like a virtual prom and a Cinco de Mayo-themed stream, and as his forthcoming album looms, he is looking to keep his foot on the gas pedal.

Diplo's highly anticipated Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil album is primed for its long-awaited debut this Friday, May 29th, 2020. Ahead of its release, he is lassoing his fans to Twitch for the latest edition of his livestream series "The Thomas Wesley Show," where he will whip out his cowboy hat and preview tracks from the project, according to a press statement.

You can tune into “The Thomas Wesley Show” via Mad Decent's Twitch channel tomorrow, May 28th, 2020, from 8PM to 10PM PST (11PM to 2AM ET).

Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil will arrive in full on May 29th, 2020 via RCA Records UK. Fans can look forward to contributions from Thomas Rhett, Zac Brown, Julia Michaels, Young Thug, Noah Cyrus, and Orville Peck, among others. Listen to Unearthed Avicii Set from 2011, Broadcasted During SirusXM's Virtual DisDance Festival

As time continues to pass, the memory of Avicii will never fade into darkness. The late dance music legend passed over two years ago, but to this day his music continues to inspire. Throughout his illustrious career, he blossomed into a figurehead of the EDM scene, helping to bring the genre into the mainstream light. You could tune into any old Avicii set in 2020 and it will hit just as hard—he's truly a gift who keeps giving. 

While it may seem as if we've gone through all the old Avicii sets by now, there still are some that have yet to be unearthed. Enter SiriusXM, who unveiled and broadcasted a never-before-heard Avicii set as part of their recent Virtual DisDance Festival.

The set comes to us straight out of 2011 and features some of the most iconic Avicii IDs that never made it to an official release. With this one-hour performance, you can relive his "Rolling Bootleg" of "Nothing Without Adele," his "Avicii Meets Yellow Mix" of Bob Sinclar's "New New New," his "Replacer Remix" of Toni Braxton's "Make My Heart," and his club mix of Robyn's "Hang With Me."

Look Inside This Illegal Rave Broken Up by Police at a UK Nature Reserve

UK partygoers ignored authorities' wishes and put wildlife at risk for a night of debauchery.

Things across the pond are getting dicey in the rave community as large group recently held an unauthorized rave at Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve in Leeds, West Yorkshire, which was shut down by police. The illegal festivities took place over the Bank Holiday weekend (May 23rd to 25th), with images surfacing of partygoers ranging from late teens to early '20s deliberately ignoring the social distancing measures instated amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Posting on Facebook, a Kirkstall Valley environmental advocacy group admonished the event. Local police said people were wading their way across a section of the river to gain access to the reserve, sparking concerns for their safety. Since the reserve is a nesting ground for several species of birds, the status of these animals' repopulation is now tenuous considering their nests were more than likely damaged during the rave. The advocacy group also stated that the revelers would have scared off many waterfowl species, leading to their young being abandoned.

Through the chaos, three partygoers were arrested and sound equipment was seized. This isn't the first time this region has been affected by those wishing to use it as a secluded rave oasis. Back in 2018, the reserve was overtaken by attendees, who burned down meadows full of moths and butterflies and disturbed the area's waterfowl and wildlife.

"We would urge people to consider their own safety and the safety of others, particularly during the warmer weather and the ongoing period of lockdown," said Superintendent Chris Bowen of West Yorkshire Police. "We will continue to work alongside our partners to engage, explain, and encourage in a way that will influence people's behaviors, using enforcement only in the circumstances that we have to."

With quarantines being put into place for all of our safety, we in the electronic music community must set an example as honorable citizens. While we're accustomed to the freedom of going to clubs and festivals, we must take this time to entertain ourselves in safer, more responsible ways, like tuning into a livestream. “I wanted to make a happy house song,” Jayda G explained. “The uplifting vocal, the slow breakdown, the release, those are a key part of so many of those classic house tracks I’ve found through digging over the years, and I really wanted to emulate the feeling I get from those.”

The road to Jayda G's Both Of Us/Are U Down EP was marked by some hesitancy due to our current global crisis. She debated whether now was an appropriate time considering the pandemic's negative affect on mental health. “Things can feel really fucking depressing at the moment,” she continued. “But the amount of messages I’ve been getting about the track, even during lockdown when people are unable to even be in clubs or at festivals, that really convinced me that now was the right time.”

Both Of Us/Are U Down is Jayda G's first release since her 2019 debut album Significant Changes. Since then, she has developed a loyal following who appreciate her take on house, soul, and disco. She also had the industry talking back in 2017 when she played Amsterdam's Dekmantel festival before her set was released through Boiler Room, garnering over 760,000 views on YouTube.

Livestreaming Has Led to Social Media Growth for Artists, According to Chartmetric Study Featuring Diplo and DJ Snake

Chartmetric's new report analyzes the correlation between livestreaming and follower growth during COVID-19 and uses Diplo and DJ Snake as two of its subjects.

Music analytics firm Chartmetric has released its third and final report analyzing the impact of COVID-19 on the global music business. The analysis, which explores the effect of livestreaming on artists and their social media followings, follows Chartmetric’s previous reports detailing genre quarantine trends on Spotify and music consumption habits on YouTube during six countries’ lockdown timelines, respectively.

In order to explore the correlation between livestreaming social media follower growth, Chartmetric utilized data gathered from the streaming exploits of 12 different artists: Jill Scott and Erykah Badu (Verzuz battle), Tory Lanez (Quarantine Radio) and Ty Dolla $ign, Metallica and Iron Maiden, H.E.R. and SZA, Diplo and DJ Snake, and Charli XCX and Miley Cyrus.

The report is fascinating in terms of EDM, as it labels the effect of livestreaming on Diplo and DJ Snake's respective Instagram followings as "complicated."

"For Diplo, his follower trends are generally, if slightly erratically, trending upward from 50 days before he started livestreaming to 50 days after he started livestreaming," the analysis reads. "However, he does seem to experience his strongest uptick in Instagram followers immediately after he starts Corona Sabbath on March 14th. Following that, Diplo’s follower growth kind of tapers off, maybe as a result of him hitting a saturation point given his daily digital presence as well as the increasing competition from other artists turning to streaming as the quarantine lengthens."

"Luckily for DJ Snake, who has yet to embrace consistent livestreaming on his own artist channels, less is more," the report continues. "Up to 25 days before Diplo started livestreaming, Snake was seeing a general climb in his Instagram followers — a climb that consistently increased as Diplo’s growth started to taper off during the 12-50 days after his first livestream date."

According to Chartmetric's blog post on the subject, the following points represent the study's key takeaways.

• If streaming and social media follower counts are the deciding factor, then livestreams are now officially “cool” for popular artists, virtually guaranteeing same and/or following day increases.
• Livestreams scheduled by artists from their own channels generated significant lift in follower growth.
• Artists making guest appearances on other artists’ livestreams also saw meaningful engagement lifts, though perhaps not as substantial as consistent livestreamers.
• Future analyses should monitor premier livestream appearances (e.g., Verzuz or Quarantine Radio) for a higher rate of daily follower gain beyond a few days after each event, to better understand their long-term impact.
• Once fan behavior adjusts to “expect” planned livestreams, a potential residual effect of consistent livestreaming is a reduction in non-live content consumption.
