deadmau5 to Perform Intimate, Socially Distanced Drive-In Show in Toronto

deadmau5 is throwing his hat into the drive-in rave craze.

deadmau5 is throwing his hat into the drive-in rave craze, which has continued to pick up steam in the wake of the pandemic's decimation of the live music industry.

The Grammy Award-nominated electronic music producer took to Instagram today to announce a forthcoming drive-in concert in Toronto on August 14th, 2020. "hey Toronto, the boss has been chatting with the city mayor… and we’re happy to let you know we’ve got a small drive-in show booked in for Friday, August 14th!" deadmau5 wrote.

Drive-in shows have been a topic of consternation in the aftermath of "Safe & Sound," a concert in the Hamptons headlined by The Chainsmokers that reportedly devolved into a show devoid of social distancing. They have also proved to be a headache for promoters and event organizers. However, ahead of his drive-in show at City View, deadmau5 asserted that while his edition "is about having some fun," his team has been "working hard to ensure this is a safe and socially distanced event."

Tickets will go on sale this Monday, August 3rd. For more information about the show and its health and safety measures, visit here.

deadmau5, REZZ, More Throw Their Weight Behind Blockchain-Based Streaming App Audius

Audius sees the music streaming market as an industry ripe for disruption.

Blockchain-based music streaming startup Audius has made sizeable strides in the last year, and a bevy of dance music artists have helped lay the groundwork for its growth.

With over 250,000 monthly users and $8.6 million in growth capital to its name, Audius is among the most promising music industry-related blockchain ventures. The project seeks to disrupt the streaming industry by creating a peer-to-peer payment system that enables artists to receive payments instantly. The model makes for a more efficient system that effectively eradicates label inefficiencies and payment latency.

Dance music artists have flocked to the cutting edge project. 3LAU, deadmau5, Lido, Mr. Carmack, REZZ, and Zeds Dead have signed on thus far, and in total, the platform has attracted over 40,000 artists to date. 3LAU and Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels are also strategic advisors to the project.

For listeners, Audius does not require knowledge of blockchain in order to use. The company aims to become an alternative platform with a familiar user experience to that of its competitors.

Audius plans to launch its mainnet on the Ethereum blockchain in the next couple of months, keeping them on target to introduce instant payments for monetized content by the end of the year, according to CEO Roneil Rumburg.

Beyoncé Releases Music Video for Major Lazer, Shatta Wale Collaboration "Already" from "Black Is King"

The visual shortly preceded the full launch of Beyoncé's "Black Is King."

Beyoncé has revealed the official music video for her single "ALREADY," originally part of the superstar songstress' album The Lion King: The Gift and now also included on her new visual album Black Is King.

The collaboration saw Beyoncé joining forces with Ghanian singer-songwriter Shatta Wale and electronic music group Major Lazer. The dance number opens with dialogue from Rafiki and Simba before angelic falsettos swirl in to the tune of lightly floating chords and rhythmic percussion from the Latin Grammy Award-nominated trio.

Major Lazer's Diplo took to Twitter to thank Beyoncé and Shatta Wale for enlisting the hit-making trifecta as part of the project. "We went from the basement studio to Disney+ with this one," Diplo quipped.

The music video is a celebration of the Black community with dancers from around the world. The captivating visual dropped just hours prior to the full Disney+ release of Black Is King on Friday, July 31st, 2020.

"With this visual album, I wanted to present elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message, and what it truly means to find your self-identity and build a legacy," Beyonce said of the project.

MK Files Suit Against Management Over "Unconscionable Agreement"

MK is seeking $3.5 million from his former team in a massive lawsuit alleging unfair business practices.

MK is seeking to have his management agreement declared void, alleging he was duped into an "unconscionable" arrangement by his former team.

The renowned music producer and DJ alleges that the agreement from MDM Artists has locked him in for up to a ten-year term, which is reportedly in violation of California law. The state's "seven-year rule" for employment contracts states that such agreements may only be enforced for a seven-year period. The structure of MK's agreement in particular included an initial six-year term but also grants an additional four single-year unilateral extensions.

Additionally, the suit alleges that the agreement includes a "sunset clause" entitling MDM Artists to a cut of MK's earnings on deals inked after the contract's termination. According to the suit, defendant Mark Davenport, MK's manager, reportedly convinced the "Back & Forth" producer to sign the "wholly one-sided" agreement on-the-spot without allowing him to review with an attorney.

MK asserts that he was tricked into signing the contract at an airport following a late night of drinking after a performance. MK was told at the time that the 2015 agreement included no new provisions, but now claims the contract he was coerced into signing was entirely new.

In addition to termination of the agreement, MK is seeking $2 million in damages and the return of $1.5 million in commissions fees.

Saint Punk Releases Gritty Remix Pack for "Guttah"

A handful of producers caught Saint Punk's attention in the fierce "Guttah" remix competition.

Saint Punk's distortion-heavy single "Guttah," has received the remix treatment from several rising producers looking to push it to the limit.

The grunge house purveyor's original offering makes its twisted constitution known early, sparing no time before introducing a mangled bassline that dominates the mix. Though he set the energy level high with his original release, Saint Punk managed to find a handful of producers with a willingness to harness and reimagine "Guttah" into something new.

Juice! the DJ kicks things off with a full rhythmic transformation, reshaping the single into a midtempo dance floor heater. Meanwhile, Dropheadz and Trst. go toe-to-toe with Saint Punk at his own game with house interpretations that don't compromise on the bass. Evol pierces through hefty synths with even punchier drums in a frenzied ride of breaks and bass while MIKO completes the bass music "around-the-horn" with an evolving trap interpretation that will keep listeners guessing at every build and drop.

You can listen to the remix pack in full below.
