Listen to All that Jive by Kwekwe Karu on Deezer. With music streaming on Deezer you can discover more than 56 million tracks, create your own playlists, and share your favorite tracks with your friends.
The track is the first release from the new Canadian duo.
Fresh on the Ontario scene, new duo CakeLife have cooked up a sweet treat for all the dessert lovers out there with their new single, "Cake." The debut draws from a variety of references, creating a sound tasty enough for both vanilla and chocolate fans alike.
Starting with a subtle piano riff, the track quickly grows into a pounding beat reminiscent of house and techno. Its fast pace and bright synths provide some serious groove to the more subtle drum beat.
"Cake" is catchy and thoughtful, showing CakeLife (comprised of Chris Pop and Leo Zhou) are putting a fresh and original twist on existing EDM influences. Pop and Zhou are both students in Kingston, Ontario at Queen's University. Before teaming up, they touched their toes in the local electronic scene and in nearby Ottawa.
Pop released his first EP, Absolute World, through ArtistIntelligence Agency, and has since released "ALL I SEE" and "KARIYA."
Zhou, better known as ZØ, has been circuiting Ottawa's club scene and has a residency spot in Kingston, Ontario. The area is home to Escapade Music Festival, which billed DJ Snake and Martin Garrix as headliners earlier this year.
The synthesis of bass music and hard rock is proving to be more than a flash in the pan.
You might remember Qoiet from his May LP, Absurd, which came out on Crowsnest Audio. The German artist has shown that there's more where that came from, starting with his collaboration with French talent Barenhvrd titled "crown FACELESS."
Both artists' fusion of hardcore and heavy bass music play well together in "crown FACELESS." Distorted electric guitar and warped vocals ring out over a halftime drum pattern before a brutal breakdown takes center stage in the arrangement.
Music by metalstep poster children like Sullivan King may encapsulate a more melodic manifestation of the genre crossover, but Qoiet and Barenhvrd's sound is better equipped to draw in fans of heavier rock music. With double-bass drums segueing seamlessly into bone-shattering drops in every track, they stand to bridge two otherwise mutually exclusive underground communities.
Stream or download "crown FACELESS" by Qoiet and Barenhvrd across platforms by way of Code Pandorum's Crowsnest Audio imprint here.

The Evolution looks to take the place of Excision's fan favorite The Paradox audiovisual experience.
Excision's never been one to cut corners on production, meaning that the next incarnation of his stage show will be certain to melt faces. The bass music icon has announced that he will debut an audiovisual experience called The Evolution at the 2020 edition of The Thunderdome in Tacoma, Washington on January 31st and February 1st, 2020.
As its name suggests, The Evolution will replace The Paradox, which Excision (real name Jef Abel) first brought to life towards the end of 2015. 2020 will mark The Thunderdome's second annual event. The 2019 edition featured such supporting talent as Ghastly, Liquid Stranger and Downlink.
Outside of playing and producing music, Abel has shown event curation to be among his many talents. His Lost Lands and Bass Canyon festivals have quickly become mainstays of the bass music community, providing a platform for established artists and up-and-comers alike.
Abel has not disclosed any details of what The Evolution will entail. Tickets to The Thunderdome will go on sale Thursday, November 14th.

Just because techno is a big business nowadays doesn't mean Time Warp's forgotten how to stay true.
For how ubiquitous the term “business techno” has become among dance music purists, it’s remarkable how few of them can explain what it means. The phrase was coined by UK producer Shifted in protest of a Resident Advisor article before emerging as a viral trope in The Worst Techno Memes Ever Group Page. Unlike more cut-and-dry genre descriptors (some of which we may have had a hand in popularizing), its exact definition remains somewhat nebulous.
Perhaps, then, it’s easier to describe what business techno isn’t - and what better place to look than the lineup of Time Warp NYC.
Don’t get us wrong, the organizers did their due diligence in curating a roster that would give the event brand’s first stateside show in five years a formidable draw. They also took the opportunity to give techno’s traditional and proper side ample representation, however. If you want to explore the non-business side of techno at Time Warp on November 22nd and 23rd, we recommend checking these five artists out.
Peggy Gou
Peggy Gou seems to have appeared out of nowhere, suddenly taking the dance music world by storm. Her initial aim with DJing was to become the first Korean woman to play Berghain. She’s done all that and more in a few short years.
The Berlin-based, Korean-born artist brings personality to her tracks, singing in Korean on her hit tunes “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)” and “Starry Night.” Behind the decks, she’s fluid, rolling through house, techno, disco, and electro to capture audiences.
Gou takes the stage on day 2.
Ricardo Villalobos
Many recognize Ricardo Villalobos as a minimal techno pioneer and Time Warp mainstay.
With varied inspiration, from Depeche Mode to rhythmic South American music, the Chilean DJ/producer is a master of percussion, bringing simple soundscapes to life with remarkable percussive elements. Hear it on tracks like “Recat” and “Reannounce.”
NYC’s very own Avision (real name Anthony Cardinale) has been playing with turntables since the age of twelve and had his first residency in New Jersey at fifteen.
Supported by Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber, Chris Liebing, and Joseph Capriati, Cardinale has put out some stellar tracks over the years, with releases on influential labels like Paco Osuna’s Mindshake, Carl Cox’s Intec, and his brother Victor Calderone’s Matter+.
His sound is lean, metallic, and raw. Get a taste as Cardinale performs day 2.
Sonja Moonear
Born in the Swiss mountains, Sonja Moonear grew up immersed in classical music. She would often sneak out at night and go to all sorts of underground electronic music parties, though.
Now, Moonear runs the Ruta5 label, organizes electronic music events in Switzerland, works as a sound designer for Swiss-French TV, and tours the world as a DJ.
Slow grooves, twinkling synths, and of course, powerful kicks mark the Moonear way. Catch her perform on day 1.
Enzo Siragusa
Enzo Siragusa has had an illustrious career in electronic music, starting in the U.K. rave culture of the '90s. With his iconic Fuse event series, he’s built a loyal, cult-like following in London, carefully curating parties with equal focus on community, atmosphere, and sound.
The dance music veteran takes the decks on day 1.
