Kaaterskill Falls in Upstate New York

I'm still trying to figure out if Fliiby.com is worth bothering with. Just put some short footage shot in the Catskill mountains up there. All handheld and very short of a Two Tier Waterfall , the Kaaterskill Falls. Have a look. Not sure it's worth uploading a 9 second long video to Youtube honestly.

Audio-Technica AT2020 Versus ATR-2500 Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic shoot out

Doing a quick head to head comparison of the Audio-Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Condenser mic with XLR connector versus the ATR-2500 which has a built in USB interface as someone mentioned in one of the forums I frequent that "You should NEVER buy a USB Mic" Since I own ALOT of microphones, some of which I've had since the 1970's I took up the mantle and made this video. I plugged the AT2020 into a Blue Icicle XLR to USB interface and recorded it's sound directly into Apple's Garageband on my Mac. I then plugged my ATR-2500 into the Mac and recorded it's sound in Garageband. I then used Apple's FCPX to replace the scratch audio recorded by my Sony A7 and replaced it with the Audio recorded into Garageband using the Clip Synch function. Let what YOU hear guide your decision whether a microphone with a USB interface built in is inherently worse than one with an XLR connector.

Cree Q5 LED Flashlight

Today we take a quick look at the Cree Q5 LED Flashlight, these can be found all over for $4-$5 a piece , sometimes less if buying in lots. This Flashlight uses a single AA battery to power it's quite bright single LED. I understand they are about 7 Watts. I shot this in my home studio using the Sony A7 and used a Rode SmartLav+ Lavalier Microphone plugged directly into the A7 to capture the audio. It would be nice if these could accept CR-123A batteries at 3.7 volts , this already bright flashlight would be even brighter. It's become my everyday carry now, it's a nice size, focusable and not too heavy. the barre is a nice looking machined aluminum I believe. This video was lit with a single Neewer CN-160 LED panel with the Orange/Yellow Warming filter on it, lit from my right. The lens used is the Tokina 28-70mm F2.8 ATX lens on a Sony LA-EA4 adapter. The lens is set at 50mm, shot at 1/50th of a second and wide open at F2.8

Irig Pre on Sony A7 with Audio Technica AT-2020 Mic

Trying out the iRig Pre microphone Preamp with an Audio-Technica AT2020 Large Diaphragm Condensor Mic plugged into it. The iRig Pre uses a 9 volt battery to provide Phantom Power to XLR mic's requiring it and that Power can be turned on and off. I used my Tokina ATX 28-70mm F2.8 Lens owith the Sony LA-EA4 adapter onto the Sony A7 to shoot this with the Lens set to 70mm and wide open at F2.8 with an shutter speed of 1/50. Love my Vintage Lenses :-) The iRig Pre is designed for use with Tablet's and Smartphone and so must be adapted to use direct into a Camera. Some people choose to modify the iRig Pre itself tho I prefer to use an adapter like the Rode SC3 I use for my Rode SmartLav+

19" Fluorescent Ring Light

Taking a look at a generic 19" Ring light that uses a 5600 Degree Kelvin bulb rated at 75 wattsIt came with a nice diffuser that is attached to the ring via velcro and it throws a generous amount of light. The main section of the video was shot with the Ring Light on Full Power, about 4 feet from the subject, I used a 28-70mm F2.8 wide open at F2.8 and focal length of 50mm, Shutter speed of 1/50 and ASA/ISO 250. I also use a couple of non traditional lights during this video both with the ring light and by itself . I used my Rode SmartLav+ plugged into an adapter then directly into the Sony A7 and a Sigma 60mm F2.8 Art Lens in Full Frame mode hence the slight vignette in the corners. My choice of hats was unfortunate as here and there in the video you get an eye full of moire. While this is much more powerful than the Ring48 it's also NOT something you can use without power , better suited to use in the studio whereas the BestLight Ring48 can be run off 2 AA batteries. Don't forget to enter our contest announced recently and ending the end of May 2015. Good Luck
